The Scope
From foundation pours to new driveways.
Akats Construction handles concrete work for residential and commercial clients throughout Chicago. We do the job right so it holds up through Chicago winters.
What We Pour
Six concrete jobs we do most.
Residential and commercial. New pours, replacements, and violation-driven repairs.
Foundations
New foundations for additions, new structures, and accessory buildings. Plus foundation repair where settling, cracking, or water damage has compromised the base.
Slabs
Interior slabs for garages, basements, and outbuildings. We prep subgrade, set forms, and pour to the right spec for load and use.
Driveways
Remove old concrete and pour new driveways to appropriate thickness for Chicago residential. Plus aprons where the drive meets the city right-of-way.
Sidewalks
One of our most frequent residential jobs. We handle both violation-driven repairs and proactive replacements to CDOT standards.
Patios & Flatwork
Patios, back pads, and other exterior concrete surfaces. Decorative finishes available for exterior concrete.
Stairs
Concrete stairs for entrances, stoops, and exterior access points. Built to last and to spec.
Why Experience Matters
Concrete in Chicago has more variables than most cities.
It's not complicated in concept, but there's a lot that can go wrong. We've been pouring concrete in this city since 2002 — we know subgrade prep for Chicago soil, how to approach pours when temps are marginal, and what the city expects in the right-of-way.
Subgrade
Chicago soil varies block by block.
Cold Pours
Mix design + protection during cure.
Freeze-Thaw
Surface needs to survive 100+ cycles.
CDOT Specs
Right-of-way work has city standards.

Common Questions About Concrete

Most residential driveways are poured at 4 inches for standard passenger vehicles. If you regularly park heavy trucks or equipment, 5 to 6 inches is more appropriate. We'll walk you through the right specification for your situation.
Yes, with the right approach. Cold weather pours require specific mix designs, proper subgrade preparation, and protection of the fresh concrete during curing. We have experience with this and will advise on timing given the forecast.
Most flatwork can handle foot traffic within 24 hours. Vehicle traffic should wait at least 7 days. Full strength develops over 28 days.
Yes. Demolition of existing concrete is typically part of a replacement project.
